NOOB with a ECB

Hello smokers. I'm Brian and I have had an ECB since '90 (actually i'm on my second). I haven't used it much for smoking, maybe only 5 times or so. the first time I used it was Thankgiving 1990  in Texas to smoke a turkey and it turned out great. I am in Northern Illinois now and I'm going to attempt to do it again this Thanksgiving. I didn't do anything special then to the turkey I just put it on and kept feeding it coals for about 12 hours. It was a 20 pounder and it was awsome. I've seen some great posts here on SMF and look forward to tyring some recipes i've found. I also want to get my ECB modded this week the way I see some have done. Well again I'd just like to say hi and have a happy Thanksgiving everyone

Hello Brian and welcome to the fun.  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

Hello and welcome from East Texas. This is a great site, lots of information and great people that are willing to throw in their two cents worth on about anything  ........ Started with an ECB still have one and use it on occasion. I assume the weather up there is going to be pretty cool so try to block the wind or maybe wrap it in a fire blanket. I know in the past, even here in East Texas when it gets cold I have a hard time keeping the temp consistant without watching it every minute. Love smoked Turkey  good luck.

Hi Brian...Welcome to the group!  Good luck with your turkey smoke!  Be sure to post up some Qview.  You'll find that this is a great place to share ideas on smoking, grilling, etc.  There are plenty of folks here who genuinely enjoy helping one another.  Looking forward to your input, and just ask when you need anything...someone here will surely have the answer.

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions Post it
and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is because their
are so many different ways to make great Q We all have our own taste.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I hit up Home Depot and got a thermometer for my ECB and a small round grill that will make a good charcoal pan after I reverse the legs. It has a grate in the bottom and a vent. It looks like it was just made for the mod on the ECB. Our oven quit working last week so I now have the rope I need to seal the lid. Save a little money anyway.
