I'VE HAD DISH-TV FOR OVER 20 YEARS NOW. I HAVE A BETMGM ACCOUNT, HAD A LOCAL BOOKIE BEFORE SPORTS BETTING BECAME LEGAL, PRETTY MUCH GET ALL THE MAJOR SPORTS. I DVR MOST GAMES FOR THE FIRST HOUR SO I DON'T HAVE TO SIT THRU THE CONSTANT COMMERCIALS THAT HAVE RUINED WATCHING GAMES, CAN'T DO THAT WITH
AMAZON, HATE THEM FOR THAT. AT AGE 74 THERE'S LESS AND LESS OF WHAT I CAN DO BUT I CAN STILL PARK MY ASS IN A RECLINER AND WATCH TV. WHAT ATHLETES GET PAID AND WHAT IT COSTS TO GO TO ANY GAME HAS GOTTEN RIDICULOUS, THAT'S THE WORLD WE LIVE IN NOW. EVERY GAME IS A SPECTACLE WITH STUPID SONG AND DANCE AND LOADS OF MEANINGLESS STATISTICS. WE PAY DISH ABOUT $175 A MONTH, A LOT LESS THAN IT COSTS TO GO TO ANY PRO GAME THESE DAYS AND I NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SITTING NEXT TO SOME SCREAMING MORON. SOMEBODY HAS TO PAY FOR ALL THESE HIGH SALARIES AND COMMERCIALS, WE SIT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POLE, SO WE'RE THE ONES THAT PAY. PRETTY SIMPLE REALLY, BUT IT STILL SUCKS! RAY
My Dish bill just went up to $122 from $116. I only have the flex pack with locals added. There are a couple of channels we would like on higher tiers...a couple...not worth the extra money, and I have zero sports addiction so I dont need any of that. $14 dollars of that is two extra Joeys in bedrooms.
If the DishAnywhere app was worth a crap, I could eliminate those, but trying to pause and resume on the app, whether recorded or live locks the app up. I despise commercials in general. I can deal with them if I have the TV on nothing particularly special while in the kitchen, but sitting there to watch a show, the DVR has ruined me for years now for watching commercials. People that never had a DVR dont get it. Even my mom, she saw my DVR in action, yet still refused to get it added to their dish at the time and would sit there and just switch around to several channels when commercials would come on! They could afford any Dish setup and package they wanted, but old dogs dont like new tricks...kind of like US here.
We dont care to chase around all the apps, we just want to turn on the TV and there it is. But when the wife finally says the cost is more than her desire to watch what we get, we'll pull that plug. Until then, we can afford what we have, why complicate it to save $40 a month? If we hit harder times, it will make more sense.
I think Disney is the likely bad guy this time around. They are trying to push people to their new streaming app.
Disney IS the bad guy, for reasons far more important than this.
Same, I poked around a little to see if I could find a couple shows I watch daily and struck out. the DVR is something I use A LOT. My wife can go to bed early and sleep late. I cant. I record several shows that I watch late at night and I would loose that without YT.
Looks like for now keeping YT TV and turning on an NFL app monthly as needed then we'll see about next season, next month etc.
I like that YTTV has a cloud DVR, but recordings vaporize after 9 months. Not an issue for most people, but I had recordings of concerts and stuff on my last Dish DVR for well over a decade that I still watched, until the DVR crashed. There is a way to add an external hard drive to move content to that but I never got off my arse to do it before the crash. People tout the on-demand and streaming, but I have never been able to go and find the most important of those recordings anywhere since, including even buying a DVD.
Dish recordings are also local, you can still watch them even if the internet goes down. Not trying to sell Dish, just batting the services conversation back and forth. I've been seriously considering YTTV too, but the wife is even slower to change than me, and man, if they ever had a dispute with Hallmark like this Disney thing, that would not be good...but, there IS a streamer for that too!
