Hello fellow smokers...

Since the winter here in MD has been sort of mild,..I've begun work on a small, cinder-block old-school pit..

I found some brick pavers lying around, and was wondering if it would be OK to use them for the base, to help keep the blocks level..

the dimensions are 24x36, with the grill (#9 expanded steel) sitting about 16 inches high.. here's picture #1, as construction begins..

Hi Steve,

WesW is one of our brick smoker guys and will probably be along to help out shortly.

In the mean time, please stop by the Roll Call forum and introduce yourself so we can welcome you properly.

Also, if you don't mind, update your profile with your location.

Thanks,

Bill

Brick pavers would be fine but make sure you prepare the ground well first with sand and gravel at maximum compaction and allow for drainage if you are anywhere that needs that. level, solid base and then the bricks. Will last much much longer that way. will you fill with sand or grout? Mortar or dry stack?

using paver sand underneath to get things level, as of now, I'm dry-stacking the blocks..hoping to do a test burn in the next few days to get an idea of what kind of temps I can expect when the top & front are covered..
