to all my smoking friends... well that is except for the ladies...

hea, for all of you men over forty.... i challenge you all, if you have not already done so.... to make a resolution for this year to go to the doctor and have your prostrate checked... i could go on with facts and figures of how many percent of males will end up with this condition. but there is no need for that. i think we all know people who have been diagnosed. if you catch it on the front end it is alot more treatable.
it is a simple test, involves exmining the prostrate gland and taking a blood test. the blood test will set up a benchmark, from then on you will only need to give a little bit of blood so that it can be compared to the benchmark. it is called psa level.
why am i doing this??? i have known about this for along time as prostrate cancer is genetically in my family on my fathers side. if i get it and the odds are one day i will is i want to catch it right off the bat when it is most treatable. i could have passed this info on sooner but never did, something just clicked and made me want to do it now. thanks

Thanks... Had both done in mid December... After watching my dad pass from bone cancer that moved into his brain this past fall, I will be doing both test on a fairly regular bases...

It runs in my family too and I have it done annually as well - Takes an extra 5 min is all but it is so important. It saved my Dad's life

I agree 1,000 percent!!!!!

I almost died from leukemia (CMS) and for the last 6 years I go in once every 3 months for blood work ups and the Dr. watches my blood like a hawk!!! So far so good!!!

Very wise post . I am one of the worst for NOT going to the dr for anything . I wil lwork on that .

Just had a physical about a month ago. 212 total cholestoral. But she said my "good" cholestoral is abnormally high. Said she's not too worried about it, but to start watching what I eat.

I'm 41 and just got my first "finger" treatment. Get it done boys. My wife hates mamograms and they look painful, but she does it. Worse than what we have to go through. Great advice.

Now this is a strange subject in a smoking meat forum but then in the past years I have become (to me) goo freinds with lot of folks here too. I would feel pretty bad if something happened to anyone of them from here. So I too have mine checked also. My wife is a nurse so I get the extra good one from the doctors she knows. I have to say she looks out for me thou she always sets me up with this doctor that is about the size of tom thumb if you know what I means. But I am old enough for the filmed version very soon too. NO DVD's either

To me , General Discussion means just that . I appreciate open talk about health and general life issues and or sports . At least you know you are speaking to folks with some of the same ideals as yourself or we ( they ) would not be in here to start with if not for SMF
