Hello...I'm from Southern Illinois and have been reading on the forum for a few months now. I purchased the Brinkmann TLE  and have read about installing additional temp gages at grate level. I'm getting ready to assemble this week (hopefully...depends on the weather) and my question is this.....can I just simply drill a hole in my lid and install a regular BBQ thermometer? Thanks for the help and I look forward to being a member here and learning the tricks!

You might want to check out Jeff's Free 5 day E-course it will teach you all the basics and a whole lot more!

Instead of buying two therms that might not be accurate I would put the money towards a good digital dual probe therm like the Maverick ET732:
