Hello!

My name is Jake, and I just bought a used Cabela's Deluxe Electric Smoker used from a friend.  It's this one:

So, I don't have instructions, so I'm wondering exactly how much wood goes in the tray at the bottom.  It's about the size of a pie tray, and it sits directly on the heating element.  The day I bought it we just put a handful of chips in there, not knowing how much to add, and smoked a few chicken leg quarters.  They turned out pretty good, so I'm not too concerned but was just curious!  Thanks!

Search for "Thin blue smoke" or TBS on this forum and  you will find lots of guidance on using wood chips to get the correct amount of smoke. In short, the smoke should be thin and light, usually lasting 30-45 minutes per refill. Avoid heavy white smoke, which may result from placing too many chips inside the tray at one time. After a few fills you should be able to best judge how much to put in at one time for your particular smoker. As a start, use 5-10 chips and go from there.
