New here. I will be cooking in a Charbroil SRG. I am new to cooking pork butts. I am looking to slice this, not shred it.

How about a rub? What should I use on this?  Any tips on how I should do this? Thanks for the help. John

I have a little Rub I throw together for my Pork ,not too hot as the In-Laws and wife don't like "Hot" so I don't spice it up as I do for just me...

However , it has a great flavor :

1/4 c-Chile Powder (I use a mild "pure" N.Mex. ground variety)

1/4c - Paprika (mild and smoked-reg is fine too)

2 tsp. - Seasalt

2 tsp. - Ground Ginger

1 tsp. - fresh ground Black Pepper

1 tsp. - fresh ground Cumin

1 tsp. - Onion Powder

1 tsp. - Garlic powder

1/4 tsp - fresh ground Thyme

1/2 tsp.- fresh ground Cayenne Chile

1 tsp. - Mexican Oregano -hand rubbed to a powder

1/2 tsp. - fresh ground Cloves

1/4 cup - Turbinato Sugar

This yeilds about a 1/2 cup of Rub and should be enough to do a nice Butt.

Massage your Butt and (I go right to the Smoker) ,you can wrap and place in Reffer til the time is right.

Smoke @225° in the Smoker , until you reach 180° to 190° for slicing , remove and let it rest to redistribute the juices(appox. 30min.), then slice. The bone should be loose enough to remove it , then enjoy with a Root Veggie, a nice Salad and some good refreshments (Sweet Tea for me...)

Have a great Holiday Season and as always...

Here's the rub I use for my pork butts that everyone that has tried it loves it:

Tony Chacheres 3 tbsp
Turbinado 4 tbsp
Paprika 1/2 tsp
Cumin 1/4 tsp
Garlic powder 1/4 tsp
Onion powder 1/4 tsp
Salt 1/4 tsp

Its pretty basic, but very tasty.
