new smoker

just received my WSM and would like to purchase a Maverick ET-732 thermometer.  Silly question...the wires of the tranmitter/probe will pass under the lid?  Won't this damage the wires if they're crimpted under the lid of this heavy smoker?

Yes it will. You will have to put them thru the top vent or make a port for them to pass thru. Here is a mod that Johnny R. made for his WSM.
