New Smoker to the Group

Greetings to the group.  I am a new smoker who just purchased the Masterbuilt XL from BPS.  Use it this weekend.  Did a butt and ribs.  Used some good rubs that I acquired on my last trip to Texas.  I am on a diet but this weekend blew that for sure.

I have several issues with the smoker.  The door does not seal properly.  Wondering where the best place to purchase a seal.  Looked into the www for rope seals, but am totally confused now.  I need 106 inches to seal the entire door.  What diameter should I use.  The gap is the worst on the hinge side of the door.

Next I do not like the smoke exhaust on the back.  I am a traditionalist and I like the smoke stack. I really would not have purchased the one I did but the price was so good I could not turn it down.  Thinking of sealing it up with a piece of metal and cutting a hole in the top and adding a real smoke stack.  I have an email into the Appliance Factory Parts on a price for the smoke stack that comes with the standard MasterBuilt Vertical Gas Smoker.  If that does not work out I will just build me one.  I have a welder and am pretty mechanically talented.  Any thoughts this.

Welcome Tim,

Had to google a pic to see what that smoker looked like.

B4 you start adding gaskets try tightening up/ adjusting the door latch. Usually you can pull the door tighter by doing this.

If you just want a smoke stack ,You can cut a piece of 1/8" flat plate around 3/4" bigger than the present exhaust and cut a round hole in the center of it weld a 21/2 "  90 degree pipe on the plate and cut it at the hieght you want. Attach to the unit w/ panhead screws useing high temp silicon as a gasket. This keeps you from having to cut another hole in the unit .

Cutting on the cabinet may void the warrenty???

Also you can use the high temp silicone to improve your factory gasket if needed.

 It's very easy to do.

Our local Lowe's or HD did not have any.  I found some at ACE hardward in Charlotte today.  I am going to install tomorrow and see what happens.
