New smoker, having great fun!

First day with my new little PK. I live at the beach and it has been 15 years since my last smoker while I waited for something that would not rust. I think i found it. Perfectly beautiful little mahogony chicken just came off, and a pork shoulder should be done by bedtime. Made some mistakes as I learn to use this cooker. Anyone who has one and has advice, let me know! Having fun. I smell like a campfire though.

PK stands for Portable Kitchen. It is just a small oval grill really, with air vents on either side of the bottom and either side of the top and a hinged food grate so you can feed fuel and wood on one side. Made of cast aluminum on an aluminum frame so no rusting: here at the beach I need that! It's as basic as it gets, but it works!

Thank you for the welcomes! Both the pork and chicken were amazing ( but next time I'll cook the pork even longer, it pulled, but not as readily as I like). This weekend I hope to find some shad roe and give that a try. If none to be found, whatever fish is running. This is great fun.

@Soundsmoke What beach are you at? I'm originally from SPI, Tx. My dad and a few friends had those cast aluminum cookers too. No rust. They are great.

Outer Banks of NC. So glad to hear this cooker holds up to salt! It is really small, but there are only 2 of us for most situations. Just found the old cookbook they sold to go with it in the 60s. Hoped for some good tips but no luck. Pretty funny really. Apparently you can fix all the old food from the 60s except jello on the grill!

I had one of those around 1973. My Dad handed it down and it looked like a bomb, but it cooked good. That's the one that I started smoking ribs on. After I boiled them, that is.
