I'm new to SMF and relatively new to smoking.  I'm from Overland Park, KS (basically, greater Kansas City).  I've tried smoking in the past with a cheap little Brinkman gas-power smoker with horrible results.  I now use a Kamodo Joe 18" ceramic smoker/grill with lump charcoal and a Maverick ET-732 meat/grill thermometer and I absolutely love it!  All the recipes we try come-out exactly as they should with very little effort.  It makes a newbie like me look like I know what I'm doing!

I've attended Richard McPeake's BBQ classes and I've read his book, as well as Steve Raichlen. I love to read about how to BBQ, so I'm always looking for recommendations on good books. I also love to learn about the science of cooking to learn what's really going on.

I'm looking forward to making some friends, getting some tips and cooking some amazing BBQ!

As for my handle, I work in Information Technology.  So "ByteMe" is meant to be a humorous play on words and is not meant to be an insult.

Welcome to the forums!  This is the best place I know for sharing ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of friendly, knowledgeable folks who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask when you need help and someone here will have the answer.

to SMF!  We are so glad you joined us!

We love to see pictures of what you are cooking (or what we call q-views here at SMF).  To "upload the q-views" just follow the directions here and it will be easier. If you are using a cell phone, an IPad or a Kindle Fire, go to the main SMF page and click the Mobile button. Will make the uploads a bit faster too.

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do.  There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums and some guidelines of how to interact within the forums. Off site links are not allowed here at SMF per Jeff. Not that you have done anything wrong....just a little bit of FYI for new members!

If you need any help roaming around the forums....just holler!  Happy to help out!
