Just resigned up, have not been a regular for a few years. Lost access to my previous email so, I'm feeling New, but have experience. ;)

I think I've decided my MES Gen 1 is finally dead, rewired it twice and in the last year modded it more for low temp cheese smoking. Under the gun for Turkey day, have another element I could wire in, but the rust has gotten the best of the chip tray, and everything around the chip chamber. I use a small square cast iron pan, but the rails and all are shot. Just popped a couple more holes in it for a different element, but not thinking this will hold up.

Might have to change my Christmas present to a new smoker, have only had the MES and got 2 friends that bought Gen 2.5 versions after me. Wasn't in the market for a smoker and have not looked at new models in years. Had not yet shown the PID and mods for low temp on youtube yet, and now would feel funny posting it, with a roached out smoker.

I need a few dozen ABT's and a chili cheese fatty to cheer me up.

Ray,
I've been bad while gone, but gained experience to spread to others. I have to say adding smoked cheese to the mix has been a treat. I picked up some cheese wax after last Christmas, finally coated some and low and behold the wife was actually impressed with the look. I need to get back to smoking so I can fill up the cheese drawer.
Put in a good word to Santa for me while you?
Thanks
John

Updating my into already, wiped away the tears and measured for new metal insides and figured i could keep the box and redo the fire box and install new element. I tested out the non OEM element I had on hand with my PID, inside my grill, and only got to 200' F so that element is not going to work. Now do I buy a new element $40ish and mount into roached box or use that for new smoker after all? That's my current dilemma.
