I've been a frequent visitor for a few years but decided to dive in today. I'll be smoking my first brisket for the 4th and am a little nervous. It's an 18lb chunk of beef and I don't want to screw it up. Using a large'ish charcoal grill as a smoker is the issue. I usually use my 22 inch Weber but this thing is huge. Too wide for our Bradley as well. So it's off to the in-laws to use theirs. Rectangle with adjustable fuel height. Not sure how much lump to start with to maintain 225.

Welcome to SMF!
Glad you decided to join us!
I would put the charcoal on the sides & the brisket in the middle.
If there is room, I would also put a pan under the brisket to catch all the juices.
Good luck!
