Just bought my electric smoker from Lowe's on Tuesday! Put it together today, smoking on Saturday! Two questions:
1. The smoker came with lava rock, do I need to add wood chips or no?
2. I've read about prepping the smoker. What needs to be done first? Run the smoker for awhile? Clean it with something?

WOW I'm surprised NO one posted any replies to your questions. Well here goes.

1. The smoker came with lava rock, do I need to add wood chips or no? If you want smoke you MUST add chips or chunks. I prefer chunks, add one at time when then smoke dies down add another. Just DON"T add too many at 1st, or smoke flavor will overwhelm the meat.

2. I've read about prepping the smoker. What needs to be done first?

Run the smoker for awhile? Clean it with something?

Run it on high for a few hours then wipe down with vegetable oil. You probably already did the burn in.

I have the same smoker, only have 5 smokes under my belt. So far it's working real good.
