I recently had a friend build me a reverse flow smoker on a trailer out of an old 80 gal compressor. My question is do I need to grind the inside to bare metal prior to seasoning it? It is rusty but not flaky rust. I have had a fire through it already.

Could you power wash it to remove anything that will release and then oil it and start your seasoning burns?
