I'm looking at building my first UDS and want to pick the right barrel. There is a local guy that has food grade barrels that had a huge bag of grape flavoring for something in them. he says that the inside of the drum is coated in a non-toxic paint. Should I steer clear of this find? If it is usable, would I need to have it sandblasted clean? Or would I be able to burn it out? If burning is an option, would I just build a roaring fire in it? Confused on that point.

Thanks in advance for all the help

If you can sandblast them would work great.
You can burn out the liner. You will need a super
Hot fire to get it all burned out then use a wire wheel
On it. I burned mine all day and night to get it all out .

Thanks jrod62. I think sandblasting will be the way to go. I like the idea of someone else getting dirty.
