Need help with smoker placement on trailer

I recently purchased a homemade smoker, and am planning on attaching it to my little trailer. How much space is preferred between the firebox and the tires? I've attached pics of it, should I move the smoker back so that the firebox is behind the tires completely?

I don't see a picture but strap it down where you would like it and take it for a ride and see how it pulls,not enuf tongue weight will make it swerve all over the place,then when you have that figured out the rest will be easy ,fenders over the tires will keep the heat off most of the time
