I'm in the minneapolis area of MN and I can't find any where that has stuff for smoking. This includes lump charcoal, decent wood chips, brine/cure, decent rubs, etc. Anyone have any special places I might not of tried or should I just order them online? Thanks

I know there are people hear from your area that can help out....Vman is from Mn and know him from another board....he is very willing to help if he can......what say you Vman???

My local Wal-Mart, Sam's, Lowe's, Home Depot all carry lump charcoal and wood chips. Heck, even my neighborhood Kroger carries that stuff.

I also heard that stores that carry Big Green Eggs also carry lump coal. Certainly there is a store in Minneapolis that sells those BGEs.

Look on the bright side...there's always the internet.

If you know where they sell BGE's please inform me. I ended up buying my smoker from a dealer in Des Moines, IA. My local Wally worlds selection on BBQ supplies take a whole 3 feet of self. Target = nothing, HD = your run of the mill kingsfords bout it. I'll go look at lowes again. This gives me a great idea to open a store dedicated to nothing but BBQ... ugg why does this economy have to be so bad.

I think most have you covered with the lump..as for rubs, brines ect..I believe most folks here make their own concaction. you might check the sauces and rub area. and buy the ingerdents at a local grocery store. I know there are rubs for sale..but can not help you unless you order on line..

here here i agree, here you will find the rubs and recipies you need, as far as supplie's lowes has the royal oak you need and any thing else can be found online.

Go to the Big Green Egg website and punch in your zip code.

Ace hardware might carry lump coal.

You might even find the stuff in a Whole Foods store or other health food type grocery. Certainly there is a store that sells outdoor equiptment and stuff like that. Around here it's called Hearth and Patio.

Thanks! I didn't think about the kitchen window - they are a fantastic tool shop. I went into a sports store in TX, I think it was academy sports or something, they had like 4 aisles dedicated to nothing but smoking/grilling. Now that's what I would like to see here, but till then I'll check out these places.

I think in your area you might want to check out the local butcher shops and lockers and find out where they get their sausage making supplies. In Sioux Falls, SD the Western Locker is the first place to check and then across the street from them is a Food Service supplier that sells that kind of stuff. The local Gander mountain and Cabela's should know also. Hope this helps.

Eden Prairie Appliance sells BGE's DARN FINE UNITS.
Home Depot, Sams, Costco, Menards, Wal Mart, Gander Mt, Holiday for grillin supplies.
I'd figgure out a list and make calls first, but you'll find it. SYSCO sells restaurant supplies to regular folks if your kind.

If you really want a BGE go to their website and look for dealers. There HAS to be several in the Twin Cities metro.

Heck Look up BBQ Supplies in the yellow pages.

Good Luck man.

Well I found some charcoal, thanks for the tip for menards. I found some wood chips there but they seem to burn way to fast, I've gone thru like 2 bags already in 5 hours.

Well, good luck with your smoke buddy.
Yeah, the chips don't do much 'cept burn fast. REAL fast.
What you smokin on today?

Well today I got a brisket going, probably on for 8-9 hours, some fresh almost ham, venison roast, roast vegies, roast corn and for snaking on some fresh shrimp.

Excellent!
Too bad I have plans today ;)
I LOVE venison. You bow or gun it?
And PLEASE tell me it was corn fed and not swamp buck.

Woops forgot to add its a 16" classic Horizon Smoker. And to answer the other question - yep corn/grass fed farm deer. Shot with a 12gague slug up the front left hip out the other side.
