Got fifteen of us at work in a diet challenge for four months and I'm looking for ideas for food to throw into the smoker. Looking for anything low fat. Thanks.

Both chicken and lean pork loins are very low in fat and some simple seasonings will make both taste amazing!

*Oh, and you can stuff a loin with some spinach and garlic and it will be even healthier and tastier.

Don't worry about the fat so much, if you really want to shed the weight, go low carb. No bread, pasta, potato, sugar.

Then just watch the rubs and injections. Eat all the smoked meat you can with veggies, and 1 piece of fruit per day. those pounds will melt away.

Good luck.

Might be time to start that famous diet...what was it called?
Oh yeah, the pulled pork, bacon, fattie and rib diet.
Sounds good to me

Turkey tenderloins smoke nice, a little higher temp of course. I've done lots of those, they're like a really really big chicken breast. If you have costco's in your area, they have them, sometimes with a nice marinade on them. I really like them.

One time I did some wild rice stuffed peppers that were pretty frickin' amazing...use a whole grain / wild rice and whore that up with toasted almonds, tomatoes, broth, etc. Stuff that in some peppers and I coated with some cheese to melt and keep everything in...This could easily be a filling main course. Throw in a little pulled pork or diced chicken with the rice, and it is a whole meal.

Diet or no diet those peppers look awesome there BBQ eng. But I posed this same questions monthes ago when delivering some smoked good to my wifes office and the doc. said I needed to think healthy food. So go all out with venison and super lean pork loins. Maybe a yar bird or two maybe throw in some turkey parts is pieces. There are many things you can fix or the smoker. Then if you smoke something fatting just smoke it and dont eat it. I do it all the time. An I'm a fat kid now.

Actually that is pretty much wrong. You need your carbs. Whole wheat breads/pasta are good for you if ate in moderation, and potatoes are some of the best foods for you, especially sweet potatoes/yams. They just get a bad wrap because of their high glycemic index. And second, I know we all dont want to here this but, but alot of meats have a high level of saturated fats. The the "good" fat is the mono unsaturated fat found in stuff like peanut butter. Is this going to stop me from eating meat, hell no!

I've been on the body for life and just recently the burn the fat feed the muscle plan, and I have dropped 40lbs over the course of 3 months. And they want you to eat carbs, as long as they are complex carbs(oatmeal, whole wheat bread, fiberous veggies, rice, and yams/potatoes)

The most important thing is to get correct size portions, stay away from simple carbs(sweets, processed food) eat several small meals aday(I try to get 6 in everyday) and get some sort of exercise(the most important part I think).

Far fewer calories, well 1 shot of vodka is roughly 100 cals, where 1 light beer is about the same. But there's more booze in a shot of vodka than 1 beer. The lowest cal drink i think you can get is the "skinny b!itch" which is vodka and diet soda. Not too bad actually, but i'm a beer man.

Eat in moderation. I've dropped 20+ lbs since last fall. Just push yourself away from the table. You'll be shocked after a week or so when you realize just how little food your body actually NEEDS vs what it WANTS.

Smoked vegetables, and make purees of vegetables and smoke the purees.

Most of the fish you can buy are good, and are greatly improved by smoking.

Hmmmm....a lot of good recipe ideas. Maybe we need a forum that address healthy recipes like some of the ones mentioned here.

I understand the piece on excercising moderation and portion contol. I guess if I had more Heart Healthy Smokes to do, I could eat a little more of it.

Aw dang! Now you talking all that self moderation mumbo jumbo!

I like doing all sorts of veggies on a smoker. Just take your favorite veg and toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and put it into the smoker for about 2 hours. Did some shrooms and asparagus that way - even the kids loved it! Not many left after the vultures got done.

I don't want to turn this into a huge debate, but I don't think I am wrong.

I probably should have been more specific, that complex carbs in moderation are OK also. You should not eat a lot of carbs though unless you are truly exercising those muscles.

Sorry, potatoes are fairly simple carbs. The Russet has the least amount of starch if you are going to eat a white potato. Sweet potatoes are fine, they really are not potatoes. they have more total carbs than a regular potato, but are very complex.
