I have no idea how I got it as I have Mc Affee and thought everything was covered.

Started the computer tonight and got a message about did I want My Web Search to be my default search I said no and thought that was the end of it. I clicked on IE explorer 8 and sure as hell it took it over. I changed my default page to Photo Bucket.

Turns out it is malware and I ran malewarebytes,
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php program and it found a ton of crap there from them. I removed all of them. Then I ran another program, CC cleaner, http://www.ccleaner.com/ and cleaned up everything I hope. I then ran McAfee scan and there was nothing there. Those programs are very good and free, I run scans every week and you should too.

Hopefully I am clean now. I am very careful but it still got in here.

Has this happened to anyone else?

One thing you have to remmemeber about mc affee and the other popular programs is the bad guys direct most of their energy at messing with these things....

I had it till my subscription ran out last month and the local computer joint runs a similiar/custom system for me now and i am pleased. Most of these folks are former NSA employees from up the road at fort meade,maryland......My couple of pennies RON...

I run CCcleaner before logging off every time and have AVG computer scan i run 4 times a week...

Well it took over Carols puter also. She is also runing those programs as we speak. It must be a wireless network thing as we both do different things.

Yup, sounds familiar, I got the Windows 2009 virus last spring and Malwarebytes was the only thing that worked getting rid of it. Got another virus similar to 2009 (constant repeating messages "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED BUY OUR PRODUCT TO CLEAN IT" blah blah) and Malwarebytes cleaned 'er up again. Plus I run AVG every night too; I just didn't give this virus a chance to get to the night time scan - ran Malware immediately.

You could always switch over to Firefox and have a few of their free programs running to prevent lots of things getting into your system. I prefer it to IE any day.

I don't like McAfee or Symantic ( Norton) as they are both over rated... Norton is a resource hog also...

I run AVG 9.0.704 Free edition for anti virus...
http://download.cnet.com/AVG-Anti-Vi...html?tag=mncol

I also do an online scan using Panda Active Scan 2.0, I subscribe to it for 19.95 a year but you can also go online and run it for free...
http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeuse...s/activescan/?

You run Panda with IE not Firefox and it will find anything...

I run another program call Registry Booster which cleans out the crap in your registry... I run that once a week. It is well worth the money...

You can do a free scan but it will only show the problems unless you purchase it then it will correct them.

ron does that ccleaner have any issues with mcafee? I had a heck of a time getting both norton and mcafee cleaned from my puter so that I could re load Mcafee alone.

No Roger seems to work fine. When using CC you need to use the registry scan part also.

I have cleaned and repaired so many computers with malware and viruses that it isn't even funny. The products listed do a very good job at removing the listed infections and intrusions.

Please add SuperAntispyware Free Edition to your list. If you have a competent antivirus already running, set it to not start with the machine. But please keep it updated so when bad things do happen it will remove the hard stuff. This includes the My web search and antivirus 2009 etc.

Glad you got the computer repaird Ron

Thanks.

What is the reason for not running the antivirus?

I just ran SuperAntispyware Free Edition. It found another 72 adware things.

That's a good program, thanks again PigCicles.

I found 2 log tracking cookies that I definately did not want.
Malwaware found 2 other ones I didn't want. So only 4 that my Mcafee suite didn't catch. All 4 were labled threat 1 out of 10. so probably not dangerous. Still I didn't want them there. Thanks everyone for the heads up.

I have spent the afternoon downloading several different programs of this type and running scans. Its very illuminating.

Did most of you already know that there is someone named Ron in Gnu Mexico that is a level 9 out of ten threat to contaminate your computer with pictures of yummy Q? Neither Mcafee nor Norton can prevent this either....

PS "YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED BUY OUR PRODUCT TO CLEAN IT" blah blah) I got that one last month and removed it by using a restore point.

I am not very computer savvy but these programs were mondo easy to install and use, I did ccleaner, malaware , and superantispyware. So far, If I get really brave I might try Firefox.

Can you run both IE and Firefox on your computer or do you have to remove IE first???
