"Can you run both IE and Firefox on your computer or do you have to remove IE first???"

You can have them both.
It's like having a Chevy AND a Ford in your driveway.
Drive the one you want.

Been doing that for years.

Thanks, I'm trying to work up the courage to download and try firefox. Is it a fast learning curve or do you got to learn a bunch of stuff?

Also Do you have to have Klint Eastwood's permisson first?

"I'm trying to work up the courage to download and try firefox."

Go for it. Nothing to it. You'll like it.

You'll pick it up pretty quick. Also you can speed up the firefox browser by following the steps at THIS site. Also Opera is a fast browser too. Lots of choices out there and you can have them all on your computer and just pick the one you want to use.

Kind of like having a Chevy, Ford, and a Dodge

I was an ardent user of IE for many years, and switched to Firefox full-time last year. Best decision I ever made. Not that Firefox is without it's own little issues, but your chances of being infected via Active-X infections or security holes are greatly diminished.

I also run Spybot, Adaware, AVG and Malwarebytes to defend against infections. All non-essential services on my PC are disabled. If you need a guide to OS services and which ones are not needed, check out http://www.blackviper.com/, he has a great resource of services that are described in full as to what they do and how they are used. A lot of them run out of the box and are never used by the average user. A good example is the Remote Registry service. Since when does the average user need a remote user to manage their registry for them?

Another tip that works great is using a HOSTS file list, which simply prevents your PC from resolving an IP address linked to a malicious site.

I downloaded firefox and it is definatley faster than IE 8, especially with photobucket.

Thanks.

Actually when I ran SuperAntiSpyware on my wifes computer, it turned my Mcafee virus checker off on its own. I had to go into the mcafee program and turn it back on after I did the scan.

It found 67 malware products on my wifes computer and sucessfully removed all of them. Only 4 on mine.

I have a new question, every day I get a windows update for KB967715
every day I download and install it, Next day same thing. I have downloaded and installed it on both my computer and my wifes computer hundreds of times. What gives with this?
Does anybody know??

That statement was given that you currently have an antivirus on your computer that starts up with the machine. The reason I say to set it not to start up is that a lot of antivirus programs don't play well together.

The best option is to keep it updated and run it on demand. If you suspect that something isn't right on the machine, things are slowing down then start with other options that aren't currently running.

Also Registry Mechanic is a good program to help clean out the registry. It isn't a free program though.

Pigcicles. I downloaded the "Free" version of Registry mechanic , it found a ton of errors , 284 to be exact. Then it said if I wanted them fixed to send them some cash for a subscription. I did not know if that was a smart thing to do so I didn't sign up. Do you think it would be a wise investment?

Thanks for all your help so far.

It's one of the very few programs that I have ever paid for. I trust it and use it. Surprising what it finds. I don't use it on machines that I get in to "fix", do to the pay feature, but like I said I do use it at home on the desktop and the laptop. You can install it on up to 3 machines with the same code (going from memory on the number).

Update 967715 is reoffered multiple times.
To resolve this problem, install the update in safe mode.

Just found this reply. Sorry I missed it buster. Glad to help. Hope it keeps you outta the fire in the future. Just remember to keep it updated and run it manually at least once a week. It will remove the dreaded Antivirus 2009 and future releases of that malware too.

I'll tell ya what's funny is when you go to a web site and before the site is loaded a msg pops up telling me my puter is infected and I should run their antivirus. At this point it shows a windoze screen that appears to be My Computer then it looks as if it is running a virus check on my c drive. It comes up with all these files that are infected and these files don't even exist on my puter. The problem with this is, I don't run windoze. I went to their site and laughed at them and told them what aholes they were.

How do you get out of safe mode once you get into safe mode??
I had to do a restore to get out of it. but there must be an easier way.

For those running Foxfire. If you find the right button on your mouse not working it is the fault of the Yahoo toolbar add on. Just go to Tools click Add- ons then disable Yahoo toolbar. Problem solved.
