A story in pictures. I picked up a cheap MES 30 off marketplace and first gutted and cleaned it up. Then added a new 1650W burner I had. Added a fan I already had from a different build. Added a new exhaust and intake for my pellet tube. Temp prob port was added and it will all be ran from my pid. (Still brainstorming ways to mount the pid to the smoker) Will do some testing today if it ever stops raining.

By god that size element will heat it in a hurry...

Will this unit be stored outside ? reason I'm asking as you say your mounting the PID to it...

Quick recovery for sure. 😂
It will be outside so it would have to be a temporary mount.

Hi there and welcome!

Good work on the smoker, it's looking great!

Are you wanting to permanently mount the PID or just be able to ensure it sits well on/against the smoker?

I ask because most of us have PID controllers we can easily remove from the unit. My current PID sits on top of my smoker but my smoker is in a plastic resin storage "shed" made for like lawnmower or trashcan storage where front doors open and the top opens up at about a 75 degree angle, so it is very well protected from the elements with all doors and roof closed.
If i needed to I could bring the PID in or if the PID dies I can easily make another one and pull the old one off and put the new one on in like 30 seconds.

Just asking for curiosity sakes to see if any good ideas pop up for mounting yours. Great work! :D

Thanks.

The pid would be temporary mount. I would like to sit it on top but I made it with the cords coming out the bottom. Was made for a different purpose.
Thought about maybe using a French cleat picture hanger.

Yeah I had thought about something like that too!

Also there is just laying it on any of it's sides where the chords are not sticking out. I assume it's that PID on the milk crate.

Mine sits on top but elevated by 2 little pieces of plastic to give it some space between the controller and the smoker. The heat transfer can get a bit hot so elevating with an air gap is good. Also I live in TX where it is mostly quite hot outside putting more stress on my PID heating up. You may not have these problems where you are :D

It is the one on the milk crate. I could put it on it’s side but after a few drinks I’d tilt my head to read it and end up falling over. 🤣
