When I press " seal " or " vac/seal " , it does nothing. Its been a good one, lasted more than a few years and we use it a lot.

Looking for recommendations to replace it. Right now, I'm set on replacing with its Foodsaver equivalent. But I could be open to new ideas. I wanna spend less than $200, so the chamber sealers are out of the question.

My old one ...........

I've got a Big Game Food Saver and it is okay. I'd like to step up at some point. Here is a recent thread with some good discussions.

Thanks for that thread. I think I've read enough, I'll just stick to Foodsaver, but I might upgrade to the 5200.

I'd take a look at one of the LEM sealers.Great product but unfortunately have gone through the roof in pricing over the past year as has all these types of products.

This was earlier this year and now it's $50 more.

I looked at LEM, and yes, that's more than I want to spend.

That's the one I have now. Once you get the hang of it, its not terrible. It replaced a Foodsaver so finicky I swore it was going to get the AK47 treatment one day. I decided to be the bigger man and save the ammo! Very rare a machine brings me to rage like that one did. My poor wife had to endure my sailor mouth!

You need to know, that bar where is says "push here"? You actually need to push down toward the counter. If you push where it actually says "push here" it will drive you nuts and scoot across the counter.

I like that it stores the roll and you pull off the roll out to the lower seal strip, flip that lever and it seals the first edge for you. Then you pull out what you need and the built in knife cuts it clean.

You'll have to learn where you can get your fingers out of the way but reach in the side (left hand for me) to hold the bag material as the roll gets to the center because the plastic has memory and wont lay flat getting to the end of a roll, but once you figure that out, you're good.

Any wrinkles when using the final upper seal strip will prevent a good seal. Especially with clumsy shaped food, you have to leave more bag than you want (or at least I want because I'm a cheapskate!) so it will lay flat across the seal strip.

If you buy bulk rolls to save money (like me) you have to transfer half of the roll to another spool. I'm a pack-ratter so I just happened to have a handful of them...surely they will come in handy some day! And they have! The bulk rolls wont go in the side of the machine unless you downsize them.

I haven't used any of the other features. I'm almost afraid to try the jar sealer. I have the jar fittings but the last one made me so mad trying to seal jars...well, you saw the AK47 comment! I have a hard time keeping my cool when stuff doesn't just do what its supposed to. They have to make these things idiot proof or some idiot will hurt themselves or let the kids stick their finger in it! I would like one that just shuts up and seals whether there is a finger in there or not!

Nearly 5 years ago the same thing happened to me, it was my second Food Saver the first made it over 15 years, the second only 6 years.
I was going to get another food saver when a good friend and hunting partner recommended the Avid Armor Vacuum Sealer.
Best decision I have made, I average 2 deer per year, countless fish, grocery store deals and we make our deli meat, so it really gets a lot of use and it looks and operates the same as the day I first used it in early November 2019.

My only regret was not spending more and getting a chamber vac.

I know, I know...... You said $200 max but...... It's sooooo close!

That's a good price for a chamber sealer.

I ended up buying that Foodsaver at Sams after going through several. It works good but it is tilted for some crazy reason. When you close the lid it pushes the food back if it is close to the sealer.

May be better, may not be.
I bet you'll like it . Has the marinate mode on it , if that's something you're interested in .
My foodsaver has the bag cutter on the inside . Love the roll storage .
Mines an older Gamesaver deluxe . Let us know when you use it how it is .

Considering I had a $100 of flanken cut beef rib to get vac sealed quickly, I moved on to get this Foodsaver Premier at Walmart. It had bag roll storage and a built in cutter. And it does not sound the same as my old Foodsaver.

May be better, may not be.

That is the one I got. A bit harder to open the lid. Only thing I dont like is with it being tilted it pushes the bag away when you close it if the bag is full but other than that it works great. I use the hand vacuum on mason jars all the time.

I was wondering how that hand vacuum would work. That will be valuable for us when we make refrigerator pickles in the summer. My old vac seal had an attachment that was iffy , whether it worked or not.

This one makes a different sound than my old one, the new one sounds more like an air compressor.

It took me a minute to figure out you have to pull that wand thing apart. The nozzle is in there.

Now you got me looking at that! Always wanted a chamber and at that price and shipping is free. Mmm
