So in two weeks I'm cooking for 25 for my brother's Stag Do (Bachelor Party for those on the wrong side of the pond ;) ) .
I'd just like to thank this forum for being so supportive and such a great source of information. I am confident that my first UDS will be a winner.
Next time, I will be buying a new drum or paying to get it sandblasted. Stripping the paint off was something I never want to do again!
I also had to work with a closed head drum, as it seems much harder to get drums in the UK. I used an angle grinder to take the lid off, but it worked really well as it is now a nice tight fit.
I made the charcoal basket and grilles from stainless steel bits from a restaurant kitchen that I found in a local scrap merchant.
Total cost, minus labour, around £200.
Tomorrow, brisket and pork shoulder are happening.
