Rivet's Pterodactyl Eggs gave me an idea that I followed through on today. I figured if you could smoke hard boiled eggs, why couldn't you cook them too while you were at it. So that's what I did.

Took 3 eggs because that's what would fit in my little dish. Put them straight from the fridge in to the smoker at 225 for 2 hrs. I was smoking ribs at the time so they were smoked with apple. Took them out and cracked one open to find the center wasn't quite done yet. Finished peeling it and nuked it to finish cooking it. Matt scarfed that one up as soon as it cooled. He said it was good and wanted the others too. I was mean and told him no and put them back in the smoker to finish. After a total of 3 hrs, they were done. There is a very little bit of a smoke ring but it doesn't show up good in the pics. You could actually taste a bit of the smoke. I would defintely do them again in the smoker.

He Dawn, good deal! I always wondered if you could cook them from raw in the smoker but for some reason suspected they would blow. Now we know!

Your son Matt has got it right, they are very tasty aren't they? As a parent I think stuff like this is a whole lot better snack than chips, candy or other junky foods.

I think I'll pass on the pickling part. We like the eggs just the way they are.

very good idea dawn. nice ti know I can smoke them completely in the smoker. Looks like we're having egg salad this week. Thanks rivet for getting it started.

Thanks for posting this Dawn!
Rivet's posts convinced me to try some eggs out and while researching pterodactyl eggs I came across your thread.
Was just wondering if they could be smoked raw and how well they would turn out, now I know.
Going to try some out later over cherry.
Thanks!

Thanks dawn I thought I was going to be able to give my smoker a rest for awhile after this weekend but it looks like I will be firing it up again tonight. Smoked egg salad sammies sounds darn good to me

They are good.

I've already got a dozen eggs waiting for the smoker next time my son, Matt, uses the Bradley. He's decided he wants to do more eggs as well as meatballs again.
