I have the Camp Chef ZD from Dicks. It has 12 vents in the back, no chimney. The lid is thin and it really sucks the pellet in cold weather.

If I use a welding blanket from Harbor Freight I will need to cut out a rectangle for the smoke vents. Will cutting the blanket release a bunch of fibers.

Or should a build a cover out of Reflectrix instead? Reflectrix is only rated to 180 degrees so I a little apprehensive at that option.

Leaning towards using a Tillman welding blanket (no fibers). How important is it to wrap the upper part of the fire box? The Tillman blanket is only 3' x 3'

Wrap with separate blankets, leaving the holes open.. intake and exhaust..
Wrap the body and give it a try.. If needed, throw something on the top...
Cardboard can be used as an insulation material.. It's basically wood... be sure there's no plastics involved..

What temperature does cardboard catch on fire?
Although paper ignites at around 480 degrees Fahrenheit, it gets far hotter once it's burning. The temperature at the center of a paper fire is 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, give or take a couple hundred. The tips of the flames themselves are usually between 600 and 800 degrees.
