Well... heck. Rub with the dry stuff, foil it up into the oven for an hour or so, remove foil, reserve juice for mopping, back into oven open to get a bark going, mop with juice/bit of the sauce. When tender add sauce if he likes.

Not much more can be done. Maybe if he has a pan, sear them with a bit of OO first, then rub- etc.

WD: Have him do them as low as his oven will go till there bout done, then slap up under the broiler to brown a bit, then back in the oven with some sauce to finish. Won't be as good as in the smoker, but will still be tastey!

My electric stove goes down to 170 so he should be ok, plus if he wants to do jerky in the over a 100 watt light bulb or 60 watt light bulb will work for doing low temps in the oven also for drying.

Does he have a wife or roomate? Just throw some wood chips on a cookie sheet above the element and turn on some fans.......serious!

I've even bbq'd indoors while in a college apartment! It was 12F outside, wind was about 20 mph, and dammitall I wanted a steak. Small propane powered grill went into the bathroom, turned some fans on, and BBQ'd away while the roomate was at work...........man did that apartment smell GREAT for the next couple days!

he heh heh, and yes I'm serious.

heap.........he just got back from iraq.......had surgery, and is recuperating in gulfport, miss.

his wife and kids are back here in iowa.....

but thankx........will pass that on to him........thankx

Hope for a speedy recovery and tell him that comes from a guy who chewed on some of the same sand over there.

Anyway, if he can get ahold of a butt, a flat, or even a roast, I have a great oven recipe I can email to you. It's basically a low and slow in the oven and it works very well.

I've done briskets this way and they are superb given it's in the oven.

since its just him able...............i doubt he will want to do a whole butt.........but when he gets back........i will let him now you got a sure fire recipe for it.........thankx

Dude, Prayers are sent up for a quick recovery for your son.

God Bless.

thankx dutch........hoping he gets to come home for re-hab........but thats up in the air right now.......what sucks, the rest of his outfit, is back home here in Iowa, while just him, stuck in gulfport

WD tried our oven here and that goes to 170 like sparky's.

Hope he gets home real soon so that you can do some real good q for him. Nothing beats home cooking.

We have any SMFers in the Gulfport area? If there are any, maybe one could drop by and deliverto one of our deserving servicemen a real smoked dinner.

WD: Send him our best and wishes for a speedy recovery!

I thinking on what Rich says for a good 1/2 cracked smoke-sounds great to me-Allie has a good friend in gulf port(x-boss)rebuilding her beach house-I bet she would love to stop and help a serviceman that is doing so much to keep Freedom a part of what most of us stand for.Steve where is he and how long gonna be? details please?
