I have the small 14in weber I got used for 5 bucks, but this is my 1st new weber kettel! I'm excited to try all kinds of different cooking configurations on it from the slow and sear to the vortex and everything in-between. Was going to get the basic model but by the time I bought all the extras that come with the mastertouch model I save about 50 bucks so I got the fancy one.

Did a test run 1st to see the difference between the thermometer at lid level verses the grate level. About a 20 deg difference i put the grate probe below the lid thermometer to get the closest reading.

Since I had a full chimney of charcoal going for my test run I put on a few ck wings. Frank's red hot buffalo ranch dry rub applied to the wings.Used the 2 charcoal baskets on each side and a water pan in the middle to cook them indirect and put a chunk of cherry wood in each basket.

Later that night for dinner I cooked ny strips marinaded in whiskey for 1 hour, then put Kosmos cow cover rub, kosher salt and fresh ground pepper on them after patting them dry with paper towels. Used the same cooking set from earlier with 2 baskets on each side with the water pan in the middle where I cooked the steaks to 105deg and then slide the baskets together and seared about 1 min on each side. Been wanting to try this for a while ever since i saw someone do this with Jack Daniel's, its definitely worth a try will do this again for sure it just pains me to throw out the whiskey afterwards.

Good for you just getting the nicer one. My philosophy as I got older has been buy once cry once. Learned my lesson buying cheaper stuff and regretting it. Hope you enjoy it! I live mine and get that vortex you’ll love it

Wow. Nice kettle and food. You didnt take long to learn how to use it.
I learned how to cook with it so quick because of all the info shared on here, so thankyou to everyone who shares post on here I try to read them all cause even though I've been smoking for a while now I still learn new stuff to try from everyone on here! Love this site!

Very nice! I'm always a bit jealous of the people who get the new models. We were given a 1996 MT for free, and the thing looked like it was ready for a trash heap but a little bit of elbow grease and some new parts (thermometer shroud, handles, grates) and i got it back to like new. As such it'll probably last another 10-20 years lol

Congrats on your new grill, can't ever go wrong with a kettle grill. BTW yours is pretty fancy will all the options. As to the whisky, at least it was Evan Williams which doesn't hurt the wallet too much. My suggestion would be have a drink in it's honor while you pour the marinade out!

Nice looking kettle, I wish I had the warming grate, but I don't think they sell those separately.

Point for sure
Chris
