These are primo honey mushrooms. very easy to identify. I am 66 and have been picking them since I was a kid around 6 years old. mom and dad would say only pick the little soldiers standing together. If you pick the older ones they are full of worms and harder to clean. Timing matters with honey mushrooms, although they are still kinda-sorta edible when they get old. As a kid I loved picking them but as a kid I hated mushrooms but love them now. lol

Imagine how our ancient ancestors felt! "Well this one amplifies light and sound" "this one killed steve" "this one made us violently ill" " these little guys are delicious" "this one taste like beef even though we dont know what beef is yet" "and this one takes us to talk to God"

LOL. Every time I start to pick a new variety, I think about what you just said.

I said it in another thread about mushrooms, I know enough to harvest mine at Walmart...
Oh, sorry, my intention was not to point at you, but rather, if anyone else stumbles across this thread as I did(saw it in search results), they will see my post too, and it could serve as a warning for them.

People tend to read something that aligns with their beliefs, and it becomes a strong endorsement for them to consume anything that possesses that quality. That's all :)

Mushrooms in general are not hard to figure out.
If you wanna screw around with LWMs, or other difficult to identify varieties, you had better be good.
On the other hand, in the US, deathcaps are about the only way to reliably kill yourself. Otherwise, if you screw up, you’ll probably just get sick.
Late season is really fun. Find a hardwood stand, and just walk slow. Do it twice at least, once looking at the ground and another time looking at the trees.

No worries, I did not take it that way at all. I was merely pointing out my complete lack of knowledge and confidence when it comes to harvesting mushrooms...
