My wood chunks always seem to turn to charchol and stops smoking. Only the smaller pieces actually turn to ash. Is this normal? When I take the smoke box out it starts smoking again. It seems like I'm not getting enough air at the box. Does this make sense? Is ther any mods for a GOSM with only a top vent. I did drill some holes in one side of the smoker and made a vent cover for them. Should the amoke box have holes in the bottom? Any suggestions will help.

It is a gas smoker so it doesn't have an actual firebox. It's a 4"X4" heavy metal box that holds the wood.

I got the gosm as well, I never use the original pan that came with it, I use a 9x9 cake pan, put the chunks in, cover with foil an poke bout 3 er 4 holes in the foil. This stops flare ups, also give the pan a shake ever now an again. When it stops smokin take the foil off the pan.

I put a stack on my unit, heps draw the air better an gives me some pertection durin rain er snow, the stuff don't go down in the smoker that way.
