Minimum temperature to get chips to smoke in a MES 40 w 1200W coil?

When you're trying to smoke some beef jerky or just dry some beef for sandwich meat, what's the minimum temperature you've been able to use and produce smoke in the MES 40?

You will have trouble at the lower temps. That's why most of the guys purchase an A-MAZE-N smoke generator for their MES.

What Al said, if the meat is cured you can cold smoke without danger for a while before adding heat.
