MES30 Chip Tray getting trashed?

I have a 11lb butt in the smoker and the 3rd time I added chips I noticed it would not slide in all the way, I pulled the tray out and the end of it is mashed in.  It's like my chip tray does not line up with the internal components.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have been thinking about just doing a Mailbox mod and going AMAZN pellet - How do you attach to the MES?  Does anyone have a part number for the 3" pipe and a supplier?  I couldnt find anything similar at my local Home Depot.

Should be available at depot or lowes as a 3" adjustable elbow in plumbing. As for chip tray there is a replacement chip tray on a safety recall for the 30" 20070312 model gen 2.

Styg, morning and welcome.....  Below is a link, to a thread I did on my mod....  3" adjustable 90 deg elbow at most stores.... 3" flex aluminum duct...  a few tools and you are home free.... I pulled all the guts out of my MES 30 and I am happy with the smokers performance now...   Dave

Just so happens I need to make a run to return a few things and pick up a new hinge door stopper thanks to a temper tantrum thrown by my nephew.  I think I may have ot wander down the plumbing aisle and see what I can find.

I just got the replacement parts for the recall on Friday, have not gotten to install them yet.  From what I can see, there is just a little extra turned up lip to keep me from setting the chip tray directly on the element.  Not sure it has anything to do wiht the chip tray alignment.
