So I'm sharing a story to maybe help anyone else.
tl;dr If you haven't used smoker in some time and are getting no power at all to the control panel maybe the capacitors have gone bad.
I bought MB20072718 off of FB Marketplace. It was listed NIB and looked every bit it. Met person at parking lot did a Venmo transaction had short nice conversation and took my new smoker home ( at > 50% discount). I set it up a few days later and it was DOA. I found this forum and started reading. I searched Masterbuilt site for parts but they and appliancewarehouse.com also out of parts. I had traced the issue to fact that the Control panel wasn't getting power. I have background in ECE as a Computer Engineer so analog circuits are not unfamiliar with a little reading. Talking with some other people with experience in analog circuits I traced the problem to the capacitor on the 5V power circuit. I ordered up some parts and replaced this only to find the following voltage regulator was also bad. Another round of parts. Working with surface mounted parts was difficult but manageable. I re-installed board today and everything powered up and heated up. See how this goes from here. The MES re-wire was always my fall back but I wanted to see if I could make this work. Sadly I took very few and mostly useless pictures of the work. Hope maybe this helps some people.
