I just bought my first electric smoker, a MES 40. Are the times and temptures the same for this smoker the same as a regular wood smoker or do i need to make adjustments?

Same, but you can only go to about 275 degrees max. Get a good set of temp probes for meat and chamber temp as the factory ones can be off. Also look for an amazin smoker tray so you don't have to babysit the chip loader.

Barry.

Yup and yup to Barry’s commets. The factory thermo and probe are off all the time. Buy a maverick or igrill or something similar to use to keep your temps correct.

Also an amazn tray is the way to go with these smokers. I have two 40s and a tray for each.

Good luck
Scott

Yup--What Barry & Scott said.

Plus maybe this will help you get started. All the Smokes were done in an MES, and all the details are included:
Just click on "Bear's Step by Steps".

For better accuracy, check out an Auber PID. I put one in my MES 40 and love it.
