My MES is the older 40; so this might not apply to the one you have, but I pull the entire chip loader assembly out of the smoker when using the AMNPS. This is probably over kill because my pellets burn a bit faster than other report, but I've never had a problem with them not staying lit since I started pulling the chip tray out.

Thanks RH. I think it's more of an issue with not having enough draft due to the small vent which is on the left side of the cabinet now, instead of the top. I think the vent might be a bit larger on the older model as well. I'll try pulling the loader tray/tube out all the way next time to see if that makes a difference. I only had it pulled out a couple inches this time.
