I didn't want to hijack a thread so I'm asking if anyone has experience using a pellet smoker plus the A-MAZE-N tube or maze? The two times I've tried it with my new Pit Boss 820 have been unsuccessful. The first try I turned the grill on after the tube was ignited for almost ten minutes and the tube immediately went out. The second try I used the maze alone (grill off) for about two hours, then turned on the grill and the maze extinguished.

I figured there wasn't enough oxygen, but the original poster said his tube (or maze) stayed on 5 hours while using his pellet grill.

Are you using the oval expanding tube or the original round tube?

When I had the Treager both worked in it with pit temps up to 285°. Tube placed on opposite end of fire pot. The oval tube works better in low oxygen environments.

I have the 18 in tube. When I use it with my Rec Tec, I have the grill up to temp.
Light the end of the tube with a torch. Get a good flame going and keep it flaming for
about 10 min. Sometimes I will have to hit it with the torch a few more times.
Then I put in in the smoker usually in the back so its over the opening past the drip tray.
The draw of the smoker up to temp and the fan seem to keep it going just fine.
Never had it go out on me.

Here's where I usually place mine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, dirtsailor and smokin218. I've used both even at the same time. My fire pot is in the middle and I've put them on the opposite end of my chimney figuring the smoke would distribute better instead of rising straight up out the chimney.

I guess I'll try near the drip tray which is under the chimney. That makes sense there would be more oxygen there. I didn't think of that; that's why I appreciate this forum and the people here.
