I'm building a grill and going to be insulating it and was curious how thin i can go with my material without worrying about warpage. I'm going to use a 1 inch layer of kaowool and a 16ga skin but didnt know if i could get away with a 16ga piece on the inside as well or if I need to go thicker. I am trying to keep it as light as I can so I'm trying to stay as thin as possible

16 gauge should be ok. Little thicker may last longer. I pick up my insulation from Home Depot. 50$ or so for a whole bunch. I had bunch left over. It's the safe and sound stuff. High melting point insulation and is working good for me. To keep warping down make sure u welding short sections and move around. Clamping down to a bench helps a lot when doing somthing flat like a door. I went 1/8 on mine and it would warp like crazy if I didn't clamp it down since it's just a flat door

Yeah I'm not worried about the warping during welding it's what I do for a living I was just wondering about overtime with use. I' going to have the coal rack up a little to it isn't sittijng directly on the material. What kind of insulation did you use from home depot. I was looking at ceramic cloth bats on amazon

Roxul home safe and sound. It's like 3" thick and u can tear it with your hands and make it thinner. I made it fit in my 1.5" frame

Are you talking about a grill or a smoker? having a fire directly against sheetmetal will burn out in no time.
if it is just a smoker I use #16 inside and out on my verticals with 2" mineral wool insulation.
