I am looking for metal shelves like in an oven for my smoker. I need to have them 26" wide by 22" deep. If I can't find them I guess I will use expanded sheet metal. I don't think with the width they will hold up to the load.

Thanks,
Ron

If you end up using expanded, you might have to reinforce them for that span all right. I would use some small angle on the edges and some flat through the center.

Not sure where you are located but around here there are a number of used appliance shops and appliance graveyards. You may want to check around...... might find a whole mess of stuff you can use.

Solid square steel bar also makes for good grates - easy to scrape crud off the top. Here are a couple I made for my smoker that are close to the dimensions you gave. They're worth the work because they're good for at least a lifetime....

m1tanker,
I like that idea alot!! I'm pretty good with a welder and I have a iron supplier about a mile away. Thanks for the idea. Also thank everyone else for their ideas also. This site is definitely my favorite.

Mulepackin,

Thank you too. I'm almost finished with the build and I will post pics within the week.

Thank everyone for all your help.

Ron
