i like the ease of using charcoal and i like the WSM i have but using the lower grate is a pain. if you have food on the upper grate it is difficult to get to anything on the lower one. what can you guys recommend that is easy to use and produces great q like the WSM but has a full door on the front to get to all your food at the same time.

I have an old style GOSM that I used to use before I got my Lang.  Mine is propane but I am pretty sure that they have a charcoal one.  Propane is nice but just doesn't have the same flavor.

Just a thought
Great Outdoors Smoky Mountain    We use a lot of acronyms here
now after a little more searching i am more confused then ever. stumps, pitmaker and backwoods all look good.

Backwoods has won many mim. The gravity feeds would be nice for a set and forget with a pid. Man that's a hard choice between the 3. Look at superior too.

They do, but I have not seen one in a long, long time. I have one and it is a much better build than the Propane ones are. Very heavy. Now I did finally convert it over to Propane though using a single burner stove at the base. Works pretty darn good too.  Flavor is fine being I use a can I place on the burner, filled with a couple chunks of wood and several pieces of charcoal.

GOSM, gas operated smoker....at least that's what i've always thought it was.   I understand your pain regarding all of the acronyms on here!

Jersey if you don't want your WSM  anymore i'll buy it from you just let me know.

Well i'm wrong...gosm is Great Outdoors Smokey Mountain...lol

Yoder makes a nice vertical, but be prepared to pay for it.

The WSM works fine you just have to think ahead, long stuff on the bottom short stuff on top - if you do have to swap them just make sure you have a table or something to place the upper rack of meat on while you mess with the lower rack. I have a 22.5" WSM and a 22.5" Weber Kettle so I just put my upper rack on the Kettle while I do stuff on the lower rack, but it isn't very often that I have to do that at all. At least not enough to make me fall out of love with my WSM! LOL
