when smokin is it better to use wet wood or dry wood. I have always used wet wood in the past but I heard that it won't really smoke in a regular smoker. Any advise?
thanks

you need to use CURED, dry wood to get good smoke.........green/wet wood can/will give off creosote.......which is BAD......you need thin blue smoke.......not white billowy smoke

I don't mean wet as in green. The smoking/grilling book i'm looking at says to soak the wood for an hour. Is that right? Or do I just put it in the box dry? I'm using hickory.

either or both-on going debate in here-dry seems to win-I do both-depends.

OH NO-O-O-O-O-O-O ! ! ! ! not THAT dreaded question........LOLOL

ima..........that is a question thats been debated for as long as i have been here, even if its ONLY been a year.........you will get as many opinions to that question, as there are stars in the sky............

Personally, i subscribe to the belief, that soaked wood, will just sit there and steam, till dried out. THEN it smokes..........

I only use dry wood. Period! I want my fire to be small and burning cleanly. No smoldering. Clean burning!!! Sometimes I cant even see smoke but I know that ITS ALL GOOD! Right where I want it! Master the fire and enjoy!!
