Howdy everyone. Hailing from the Little Apple in Kansas.
Haven't been smoking very long, under 3 years. Started with a Masterbuilt charcoal from Walmart and the wife sprung and got me a Masterbuilt 40'' as an early Father's day present. Did pulled pork yesterday and 2 racks of St. Louis cut today. I gotta say the electric is nice when I have other things to accomplish. Already took out the fabled chip tray shield as smoke production was very very limited. Will be calling Masterbuilt for the retro kit Monday.
Been a long time listener of the forum as the title suggests, time I speak up!

Welcome Aboard! Never heard of a MES Retrofit kit...Hope to see your MES with one so I can see how it's different then mine and all!

Welcome
I too would be interested in seeing that modification
Did my first smoke yesterday didn't really see a great deal of smoke
Obliviously with it being my first time i'm not exactly sure what to expect

Welcome to the forum!

Many of us, as you are probably aware, use MES 30 & 40 smokers. And many of us have switched to the AMNPS for smoke.

To save you the trouble - here is the link:
http://www.amazenproducts.com/product_p/amnps5x8.htm

it is also on Amazon - and if you have Prime...you will have it in 2 days
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=amnps

I too am curious about the Masterbuilt mod - please show pictures and provide more info

I have been looking at the AMNPS but I don't think for my needs I really need it. I don't use chips but rather purchase chunks and then chisel them down to fit in the chip tray (1.5-3'' by the same thickness) Got 5 hours of good smoke yesterday before having to add 2 more pieces.

I was actually thinking about giving that a try because I prefer chips and chunks smoke to the AMNPS smoke.

My Opinion:
The chips/chunks smoke flavor scores 100%.
The AMNPS smoke flavor is like a 95%...still an "A", but not able to match the subtleties of the real deal.
