Lighting pellet tube without big torch

my lighter puts out a similar flame. how long are you putting flame to pellets? are you lighting pellets, letting them be on fire for a bit then blowing out flame so pellets smolder?
Don't really time it. Just get them going so that the end is completely lit and there is a flame on the end. Once it gets going good, blow the flame out ....... it often goes out on its own, but the end you lit will be smoldering and glowing.

So, Big Dave - have you decided yet?
I'm just gonna end up lighting a small fire under the tube outside the smoker and let it flame for 5 or 10 min before blowing out flame. i didn't let it flame near as long last time. hopefully that will be good enough to allow it to smolder.

gonna try to get the brisket in the smoker by 7 or 8pm this evening. hoping to pull it around noon tomorrow. brisket is all "trimmed" and seasoned in fridge.
