Several years ago, I came across a recipe in Outside magazine (yeah, really) for what was supposedly LBJs favorite dry ribs. Basically, a dry rub recipe. Probably not any different or even as good as many of the recipes around. It was my first foray into dry rubbed BBQ and I'd like to try them again as much for sentimental reasons as anything else. Of course, I've lost it over the years. Has anyone else ever heard of this or come across it? Thanks in advance.

google it as Walking Dude suggests or try contacting Texas Monthly Magazine. They may even have an online archive search.

Oh yeah. I've googled it, as well as tried using Outside's own search engine. No luck.

I found this recipe it's for LBJ's Texas Barbecue sauce. Not sure if this is what you were looking for . But I thought I would post it anyways.

1-2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1/2 large onion, finely chopped 1/2 bell pepper, green, finely chopped 2-3 garlic cloves, minced 1 cup tomato puree 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup chili sauce 3 tablespoons honey 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 6 peppercorns 1 bay leaf

Heat the oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat, and add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until tender.
Add all the remaining ingredients, mixing well, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 hour.
Strain or serve chunky, whichever you prefer, as a finishing and table sauce. (LBJ's was strained.)
