Following along my adventures with making cribbage boards for the campers on certain lakes in the area, instead of a raised lake and painted blue I burnt the lake out so it would hold Crystal Clear & Bubble Free Epoxy Resin and Hardener with blue pigment added to give it a blue look. A CNC machine would have been better for this affect. Getting the lake took many passes to get it just right. All in all it turned out pretty darn good. Still not perfect but good enough for the girls I date LOL.
Not sure why the map side is all blurry as in real life it is not.

Old post but a few things I was working on this weekend. The frames are made from 12x12x1\8 basswood. One for the bottom and one for the cut out frame. Lots of tiny wood pieces to pick up after the burn. Shopvac comes in real handy for that job.
Pictures are double exposures engraved into B&W scratch paper. Each one gets 4 coats of Rust-Oleum Varathane 200081 Interior Crystal Clear Polyurethane Water-Based Spray, Gloss Finish.

I have two fiber lasers, I enjoy messing with them when I get the time. One I use LightBurn and the other I use ezcad3. You will definitely get good with Adobe illustrator. I paid someone to teach me how to use it. I can send you his info if you need to learn more on it.

Actually I use Inkscape. I have Adobe illustrator but Inkscape is 20 times better. Anything I needed to learn you can find on Youtube.

I haven’t used that. I’ll check it out. I prefer free software. Illustrator is pretty crazy though. It’s really cool how the tracing works on it. I haven’t used my lasers for much in a while now. I really need to get back into it. I run a laser engraving and 3d printing business. The 3D printing has been going crazy so I haven’t been taking the time to learn more about the engraving.

Ya around here there are 5 or 6 big laser guys. They pretty much have the market cornered. Where I make money is from locals wanting something different like the Harely bikers I did ceramic tiles for their porker run and the main 12x12 plack with the events name engraved on it. Made ove a 1000 bucks on that one.
Doing coasters for locals now. Make pretty good money on those but they are not cheap to buy unless you buy in bulk which I might do if this takes off. Thanks giving coming up and Christmas so theres always room to make somethings for them.
Like I told my kid it is the best toy I could have bought myself. Has kept me busy since I got it and I have learned a lot about engraving and what people think they should pay for your work. LOL
They must be related to me as I am a cheap son of a gun :)

hahaha I can relate to that, I’m pretty cheap too. I was buying my slate coasters from AliExpress. I designed a coaster holder and 3d print those and sell the coasters in 4 packs usually.

Great job on the sales on the plaques and stuff. My 3D printing started small and now I can’t keep up.
