I've said it before but I can' get over how great the Weber Smokey Mountain is at maintaining temperatures.

I filled my charcoal basket (extended metal variety; thanks Steve and Rich) with RO lump and added about 1/3 of a chimney's worth of hot coals in the middle aka minion method.

Going over 8 hours now and still have charcoal left and still at 228 degrees. The temp has been pretty constant 225-235 the whole time. Other then play with the vents 2 or 3 times and add some water, nothing to do other then to toss in some wood and enjoy the thin blue smoke.

Which is good cause I've had plenty to do getting ready for my bbq tomorrow. Pics to follow on a separate thread.

They be a good machine... I have gone thru 3 chims now... 6 slabs done to foil, and another 6 half way. It ain't a drum...but who can complain?

Nope it's not a drum. It's also pricey for what it is. I would think someone witha littel creativity could probably come up with something similar for less money. Smaller scale then a drum. Would be nice if it came in a little wider size too.
