Asking the forum about salts.

When making your own rubs do you use Kosher, like Diamond Crystal? or do you use normal table salt?

Why either way?

What do all the large bbq rub companies use?

I use Morton’s kosher ., if I use salt . Most of my rubs for smoking are salt free . For dry bringing I use Morton’s .

I use whatever I have laying around, personally I can't tell the difference.

I use whichever brand I can find that has coarse salt.

I use coarse sea salt for everything, and it's easy to make if you live near an ocean.

If I'm adding it to the rub, course sea salt or kosher salt (Diamond or Morton's). With my experience, Diamond tends to have more uniform/consistent granules.

Course salt or kosher salt makes it easier to not oversalt. Like @voyager 663rd said, if using table salt, use less because they're way smaller.

I actually tend to not add salt or pepper to my rubs anymore, and prefer to season meat appropriately first, and then adding the rub after.

Mortons Kosher is all I use.
