I think the first time I heard/read about the stuff was right here in a mayo thread. I thought, well that just sounds silly, but the Japanese are well known for "cutesy stuff".

Some here said it was a must to have in the fridge along with their other favorite American mayo. I figured it must be some sweet concoction like Miracle Whip or that awful "yum yum sauce" some people really love...for some reason.

I had forgotten about it until I was looking for ways to use some Krab or imitation crab meat I picked up on sale to play with. Then it hit me, California rolls! I always pshawed them, preferring actual raw fish sushi types. As I'm scrolling through recipe ideas, a spicy "Krab" roll recipe popped up. I love spicy tuna and salmon rolls, so I am totally on this. The recipe uses Kewpie. I looked in to it and nope, no sugar. Me likey!

I haven't even opened the package yet but I read it has a creamier mouth feel, etc.. I'll do my due diligence on the web of course, but for those of you who use the stuff, I'd love some ideas and thoughts.

Think I'm going to make a cross between a Philly and California roll and a spicy "Krab" roll with some miso soup tomorrow for dinner. Been a while since I made maki rolls, we'll see if I still have "the skills"!

You can use it any where in place of regular mayo.. heck even in a sandwich its way better.

My favorite use for it so far has been my warm loaded potato salad

Ah yes, Baby Mayo, as we call it. My son likes it with fries. I like a drizzle of it when we make chili garlic noodles, or any of the dry-er ramen packs like the various Buldak ones. It gives a bit of a creamy taste.

Good point about US made Kewpie, 100% not the same! World Market sells the illegitimate (in my opinion) American made Kewpie. Stick with Asian grocers for the outstanding Kewpie! I think it's awesome anywhere mayo is called for, Tuna salad, yes please!!

I keep forgetting I have it now! Such a weird container. With Dukes bieng half the price per ounce, It's my go to for stuff that is a recipe, but the Kewpie I have realized is good just to squirt on stuff as a dressing or basic condiment on its own.

I checked, the stuff I got from Walmart is made in Japan. Again, so weird the way it's packaged. No actual print on the actual squirt thing. That's the Japanese. When I was there 40 years ago, the products made little sense to my American brain, yet were always really cool in some way. It's the first country I went to that had beer vending machines! Don't know if they still have them. Their youth are probably different these days. We cant have beer machines in the U.S....imagine the drunk kids...
