I use a small kamado-style cooker (see my avitar) that I restored last summer. I also have a friend who has cooked with a full-sized one for decades. They turn out some great smoked meat.

They seem pretty legit..and they do offer a 3 yr factory warranty on their Kamado's. I've spoken with them about including that info in the instruction manual, as it's not in there right now
I know that this is an old thread but what did you end up doing? Did you get the Kamado?
I personally have a Kamado Joe. I looked around a bunch and there were several "cheaper" options but I have heard complaints about alot of them cracking and only having a 1 to 3 year warranty. If you go with one of the bigger names, ya they cost a bit more but they also come with Lifetime warranty's on the ceramics. Well worth it.
I smoke pork shoulders/ribs/turkey's ect... on mine and it is a wonderful smoker. Not another charcoal smoker out there that you can put in 2-3lb's of lump, get it up to temp then leave and not have to touch it for 12-16 hours. All on one load of lump. They are amazing at holding temp's and since there is very little airflow, there is less moisture loss from the meat.
