The home built electric smokehouse I've been working on for over a year, is a success!

All of my years of smoking have been done with wood on a conventional style pit. A couple of years ago I decided that babysitting a pit all day can be a bit of a PITA, and I wanted a change.

I started construction and had some questions I needed answers to, and ended up here. It's here that I learned of the Amazen products, the Brinkmann element, and so many other items that made this a success.

Oh, I almost forgot, there are a lot of great people here that usually had answered my question before I could ask it. When I did have a question, it was answered quickly.

Thanks again and I look forward to being here for another year!

I'm with ya brother. In my old age electric is the only way to go. And with Todd's Amazing gizmo the cooks always turn out well.

So.... you gonna show us this new contraption you built or what? LOL

I agree 100%. After trying to figure out how to turn my SS cabinet into a smoker for over10 years, I learned enough from this site in a month to get my smoker up and running. Great people here.

I'd like to see too, I'm all about Smoke ..  but need pics . . .

Well, the electric, smoking, and controlling part is done. It's the exterior and base that I'm still working on.

Specs:
Internal size is 20"x20"x 42"
Brinkmann electric element
Main body is 3/4" plywood with rough cedar exterior.
Interior has 1.5" of ceramic wool insulation covered with 1/8" aluminum diamond plate on side and rear walls.
Ceiling and door have the same ceramic wool insulation, but are covered with 1/16" carbon steel. Why the 2 different metals? Well, that's what I had on hand and I'm within temp ranges to use it.
Exhaust is a 2" floor flange with a 2" nipple going out the back wall.

Stock photo of the Auber controller, but don't have a pic of mine in action. This thing rocks BTW! It's the 1800w version with dual probes.

Lots of QView, and some Bear view in my other posts. I can post here, but don't want to get swatted for multiple posts of same.

Awesome Buz.  Nicely done. Can you drop that off down in Cleburne?
:points1:

Well BDSkelly, I'm sure I could drop it off, but the cost of "delivery" would be way more than a new MES 40!

Thx for the points! I had to look up what they were!
