I am so excited and just had to share! I've been a reader of this forum for a few years now, but felt it was time to finally sign up because I am so full of excitement! Today, I ordered the Lone Star Grillz 20x42 Pellet Smoker, to upgrade from my Pit Boss 1150. I've gotten some good cooks on the Pit Boss, and plan on keeping it around, but was ready to step things up a notch!

Curious if any of you have a preferred pellet brand? Usually, I grab Traeger pellets from Ace Hardware, but I feel they can be lacking at times. (This could have totally been the pit boss not putting of enough smoke and not the pellets, I am not sure.)

Also thought it was cool I could get my podcast's logo as an emblem on the grill as well.

People who own a LSG, what do I have to look forward to?

I assume the next step after this one day will be an Offset. lol

Have a great new year!

I used the other two mentioned and both left a lot of ash. Lumberjack leaves the least in my MAK so I've been using these for quite sometime now. Most smokes are with the Hickory. Specs on the Lone Star are very good. What else did you order with it? Any Upgrades?. The smoker weighs a bunch so thank goodness for 5" wheels. Hope you don't have any stairs to circumvent in order to get it in place. Only thing I can't determine is grease removal process, but no doubt workable.

Lumberjack or B&B are my go to , but I will buy whatever is on sale .
I run my pellets in 2 ways . For smoke , and for fuel / heat . Pretty much all the same money , but I'll finish longer cooks with Bear mountain or Pitboss , and save the better smoke brands for the start of the next cook .
Bear mountain and pitboss have the most ash for me . Lumberjack and B&B have very low ash in my experience .

I have noticed a lot of ash with the Traeger pellets! But I had just assumed that's how pellets were! Good to know there are some that aren't as ashy.

As far as upgrades, I got the offroad wheels because my yard has so much sand, the emblem for my podcast, and I got the ball valve drain and the welds on the back to hold my grates. Everything else I could get aftermarket from their accessory shop, so I figured they could wait :)

Welcome to the forum, be sure to post up your cooks, we love pictures.

I run a Yoder ys640 as well as a Grilla Mammoth. I’m not super picky on pellets but I do like pecan when I can get them with a mix of cherry builds nice flavor and great color.

In the Mammoth I run a smoke tube filled with a mix of pecan pellets and cherry wood chips. That brings me to your LSG pellet machine, one feature of the LSG machine is you can buy wood chips from them that are sized right to mix directly into your pellets in the hopper, this way as the machine runs you are burning some wood chips too. I want to get some and try in my Yoder but haven’t done so yet.

First off congrats on a fine purchase and second, welcome to the forum. No experience with the unit you got, I just know its a good one. I personally run a Yoder YS640s.

In my opinion my top 3 pellets in order are Smoke Ring, Jealous Devil, LumberJack.

I keep seeing Lumberjack come up, so I may have to seek em out!

If I remember correctly, I think my local Winn-Dixie carries Bear Mountain. I will have to go and check.

I appreciate all the suggestions! Will be sure to post pics when the new LSG comes in, and whatever I may cook on the Pit Boss until then :)
